Placement of BECE candidates in schools completed

Accra, Aug. 27, GNA - The Ghana Education Service (GES) has completed the placement of this year's Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) candidates in secondary and technical institutes under the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). A release signed by Mr Michael Nsowah, Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), on Saturday said sorting and packaging would be completed by September 2, 2005.

The release said the results have been packaged on regional basis and dispatched to all Regional Directors of Education.

It asked all Junior Secondary School (JSS) Heads to report at their station immediately to receive parcels of placement lists personally and "no excuses would be entertained".

All Regional Directors, assisted by Regional CSSPS Co-ordinators would issue the results to all District Directors, Heads of Senior Secondary Schools and Technical Institutes and all JSS Heads as from Tuesday 31 August 2005, the release said.

The release stressed that all District Directors were to remain at post to oversee the orderly distribution of parcels.

It said all results to be displayed at the Regional Education Offices notice boards would show placement of all candidates into schools in the Region.

Results to be posted on the notice boards at the District Education Offices would display placement of candidates, who chose schools in the district.

The release said placement lists had been sent to all Heads of Senior Secondary Schools and Technical Institutes, adding that all heads of Junior Secondary Schools, which took part in the BECE, would receive copies of the result of their candidates from August 31 2005.

The release explained that the new placement system which was based on merit took into account the candidates' choice of school; programme and performance at the BECE written examination and marks obtained from continuous assessment and released by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to the CSSPS Secretariat.

It said Heads of 28 private institutions, who registered with the CSSPS Secretariat, would also receive copies of the placement list. The release said candidates in the Upper East, Upper West, Northern and Brong Ahafo Regions should contact their respective schools or District Directorates from Wednesday, 31 August 2005.

Candidates in Ashanti, Eastern, Western, Central, Greater Accra and Volta Regions are to contact their respective JSS Heads and District Directors for their results on Friday, September 2 2005, it said. The release said vetting of the re-entry forms from deferred candidates had become very necessary due to cases of irregularities in the information provided in their applications.

It said as a result of the vetting of these application forms, the release of these results might delay, adding that foreign students were to contact the Director, Secondary Education Division to check their placement on Friday September 2 2005.

The release requested the candidates to take advantage of this elaborate arrangement to ensure that they knew their schools in good time so that they could prepare adequately for school admission formalities.

It asked all officials of Regional and District Directorates of Education and JSS Heads to ensure that candidates have absolutely free and easy access to the placement list.
