Black Stars and Udinese midfielder has admitted that Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup currently ongoing in Russia still hurts him.
Ghana’s quest to make a fourth successive appearance at the global football festival ended in disappointment with the Black Stars finishing third in Group E with just 7 points.
Ghana lost out to Egypt who joined Nigeria Senegal, Tunisia and Morocco as Africa's five representatives at the tournament.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb TV, Badu who was part of Ghana’s teams for the 2010 and 2014 World Cups asserted that every player dreams of representing his nation at the World Cup so missing out on it is a huge disappointment for him and his colleagues.
He contends that for a player, playing at World Cup is a sign that your career has reach its summit.
“It’s every players dream to be at the World Cup. When you are there it feels like it’s a plus for the player, for the club you play and for the nation as well. Watching them on TV is very difficult but we can’t do anything about it right now, we just have to focus and comeback stronger, he said.
Agyemang Badu also expressed the conviction that the Black Stars would have perform better and make a good representation of Africa had they qualified.
He further stressed the need for African countries to perfect the art of defending set-pieces which he believes has been their bane at the tournament.
“I’m sure (the Black Stars would have done better) but I think Egypt deserve to be there. Because when you beat the Black Stars at home and draw away then it means the team was in good in shape. Unfortunately they are not getting the something at the World stage. We made a mistake and they took control so we just have to move on, Badu concluded.
