Please don’t insult leaders – Ghanaians told

Nana Twumasi Owuyah III, the Tufohene of Gomoa-Sampa in the Central Region, has advised Ghanaians to avoid raining insults on their leaders.

He said: “Irrespective of our political affiliations, we should strive hard to desist from the temptation of insulting Presidents and other political leaders, through phone-in programmes on radio networks.”

Nana Owuyah who gave the advice when he spoke with the Ghana News Agency at Gomoa-Sampa said that it was totally wrong for some Ghanaians to use the platforms of radios to brutally insult the sitting President and other political leaders in the name of political expediency.

He cautioned that if Ghanaians did not eschew this practice, it would badly affect the effective maintenance of the country’s rich traditional and cultural values.

Nana Owuyah maintained that if Ghana is to sustain and further improve upon the excellent cultural and traditional qualities bequeathed them by their ancestors then a more serious and frantic efforts should be made to curb the bad and destructive conducts and characters adopted by the current generation.

The Tufohene said that it was about time Ghanaians learnt to do away with politics of insults and think about what they could afford individually and collectively to shape the destiny of the country.

Nana Owuya said that although the issue seems to be getting out of hand, the nation could do something about it by initiating measures to curb this negative trend and instill a high sense of discipline into the country’s body politics.

He expressed regret that in some cases certain individuals go to the extent of insulting their traditional leaders because of politics, but that would not deter traditional chiefs from contributing their quota towards the sustenance of peace and stability in the Country.

Nana Owuyah assured the government and Ghanaians that Nananom would continue to play their traditional roles towards national development by educating their people on matters which did not augur well for smooth administration of the nation to ensure continued peace, stability and progress in the country.
