The Second Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, reprimanded a section of the lawmakers in Parliament for what he described as unnecessary noise-making and politicization of discussions regarding the Ghanaian Cedi at 60 years.
During parliamentary proceedings, Ahmed Shaib expressed disappointment at some Members of Parliament (MPs) for turning what was supposed to be a non-partisan reflection on the evolution of the Cedi into a political debate.
According to him, such a national discussion should be devoid of politics since every president who has served Ghana since the inception of the Cedi deserves commendation for their role in strengthening the currency.
He cited former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and current President John Dramani Mahama as examples of leaders whose policies have contributed significantly to the stability of the Ghanaian currency.
Ahmed Shaib further explained that the evolution of the Cedi did not come solely through government interventions but also from innovations such as digitalization, which, according to him, has helped modernize Ghana’s financial systems.
“Digitalization has been part of the evolution of the Cedi. It does not have to be with cash, it can be through card and we started the digitalization of the Cedi,” he said.

However, during his submission, some MPs were reportedly distracting him with noise in the chamber, prompting him to shout, “Please, can you shut up and listen to your leader when he is talking?”
The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, who was presiding over the sitting, later heard cautioning the MPs by saying “You cannot be shouting there, sit down when you are acknowledge.”
