The Police Administration on Tuesday said it would not spare police officers who in the discharge of their constitutional duties misconduct themselves.
To this effect a special operation launched last week to curb the spate of criminal activities in the metropolis would be led by senior Police officers to ensure that the rights of the citizenry are not abused, Mr David Eklu, Director Police Public Relations said.
Mr Eklu who is an Assistant Superintendent of Police told the Ghana News Agency that the exercise would involve the stopping and searching of vehicles, questioning of people and other measures not disclosed for security reasons.
He appealed to the public to co-operate despite the inconveniences.
He added that to make this special operation effective and devoid of any rancour, plain clothes policemen would be deployed alongside to check uniformed officers who are reported to be extorting money from motorists with the excuse of checking car papers.
He warned those few officers involved in enriching themselves with such operations to desist from such as acts as they may be on the way out of the service.
He urged members of the public who have been wrongly treated by the police in any way as regards their vehicles and other abuses to report to senior officers of the Central MTTU in Accra and ensure that they always have the car registration numbers of such officers.
