Latest reports from Ho in the Volta region say, a manhunt has begun for the arrest of an activist of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Evans Ayivor for allegedly making public the arrest on Saturday of Captain Von Backustein. Backustein, the NPP?s parliamentary candidate for Ho West and one Kabila were arrested for taking part in a demonstration to protest the lack of internal democracy in the regional branch of the party, improper award of contracts and growing division among party executives.
Others were arrested over the last week and released after hours of questioning. Evans Ayivor and other activists blamed the arrests on the Ho district Chief Executive, Mawutor Goh.
Castle sources have condemned the arrest, coming two days after a meeting at the Castle to resolve the problems, which include award of contracts and sharing of the HIPC relief funds. Captain Backustein and Kabila were released late Saturday night following orders from Accra after Joy FM reports of the arrests.
The police brought no charges against them. Reports say the retired military ranger refused to write a statement when the police failed to disclose who the complainant is.
The manhunt for Evans Ayivor started on Sunday afternoon and police sources, he will be made to explain his statement to the media. Joy FM has information of growing discontent among party operatives in the region. The regional executives and other targets of last weekend?s demonstration will hold a press conference to react to the allegations.
