Police Buffalo Unit arrests restaurant thieves

Tema, Oct. 22, GNA - Two out of the three men, who broke into a restaurant at Lashibi and stole a gas cooker, and a cylinder among others valued at 3.8 million were on Friday fined three million cedis by Tema Circuit court "A".

Daniel Tetteh, fisherman and Daniel Lartey, auto electrician, who pleaded guilty will go to prison for two years each in default, while Benjamin Bortey, unemployed pleaded not guilty and was granted 50 million cedis bail to re-appear on November two, 2004.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Sarah Aggrey Acquah told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on October 1, this year, a restaurant operator went to work in the morning and found that his shop had been broken into, with some items like table-top four-burner gas cooker and cylinder among others, had been stolen.

Inspector Acquah said the matter was reported to the Sakumono Police.

The prosecution said the complainant made several inquiries but to no avail, however, on October 4, this year, at 1600 hours, police patrol team intercepted a taxi at Community 16, and when the booth was opened, the items were found in it.

The prosecution said when the passengers of the taxi were interrogated, they admitted stealing the items from a restaurant, and took the police to the restaurant. When the complainant was invited to the Sakumono Police station, he identified the items as his, Inspector Acquah added. 22 Oct. 04
