Police Command arrests fake BNI man

Accra, June 25, GNA - The Adenta District Police Command on Thursday arrested 42-year old David Quarshiegah who allegedly posed as a military officer attached to the Bureau of National Investigations. Quarshiegah who also claimed to be a pastor trainee has been placed in police custody.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, the District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police, (DSP) Richard Gyebi said Quarshiegah duped one Mr. Owusu Ansah to the tune of 9,100 Ghana Cedis with the intention of selling two parcels of land at New Legon to him. DSP Gyebi said the suspect who introduced himself as a military officer showed a BNI Identity Card to convince the complainant. Quashiegah sold a plot of land at New Legon to Mr Ansah and when he started to develop it, he was confronted by another person who claimed ownership of the land.

Quarshiegah went into hiding until he was arrested at Laterbiokorshie, a suburb of Accra.

DSP Gyebi said the suspect told the police that he had repented from his sins and had been admitted to do a pastoral course. He said Quarshiegah had previously duped three other persons to the tune of 1,800 Ghana Cedis, with the pretext to sell parcels of land to them and was put before court but jumped bail.

The court issued a bench warrant for his arrest. DSP Gyebi said the suspect would be arraigned on July 2.
