Police Constable promoted for showing bravery on duty

Tema, May 09, GNA -- The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Patrick K. Acheampong has promoted a Police General Constable stationed at Tema to the rank of a Lance Corporal for display of bravery and professionalism.

In addition, Lance Corporal Foster Dorgbadzi whose promotion takes effect from May 1 2006, was awarded with two million cedis and a certificate of commendation.

The award ceremony was performed by the Tema Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Daniel Laryea Odai at a durbar of police officers and men on Tuesday at Tema.

This was contained in release signed by the Public Affairs Officer for Tema Region, Chief Inspector Yaw Nketia-Yeboah.

ACP Odai expressed the appreciation of the Police Administration to Lance Corporal Dorgbadzi for bringing honour to the institution. On April 20, he exhibited bravery and shot dead one person from a distance when he, together with a syndicate robbed the Emmajet Forex Bureau at the Sakomono Estates.

ACP Odai explained that Lance Corporal Dorgbadzi was not on duty at the Forex Bureau but at a nearby Western Union Global Access Office and he "bravely and professionally confronted the gun tooting robbers leading to the killing of one of them known as Afetor. Two others Kwasi Appenteng and Felix Bortey both 28 years were arrested later.

On that fateful day three armed robbers robbed the Emmajet Forex Bureau off the Spintex Road amidst shooting and the Lance Corporal who was on duty at a Western Union Global Access Office nearby went to rescue the victims and shot at them from a distance of 60 meters, killing Afetor.

He collected a bag containing 40.5 million cedis from one of them while the two others managed to escape.

However, Kwasi Appenteng was apprehended later at his father's funeral at Kibi while lavishly giving out monies to people and Bortey arrested later at Nungua with ammunitions found with them.
