The Greater Accra Police Command has arrested the leader of the gangsters who allegedly shot and killed their colleague at Flamingo near Dansoman, a suburb of Accra.

Nii Ashaley Jerry Ashitey, alias Jerry, 28, who had been on the wanted list of the police for years, was arrested at his hideout at Mamprobi on Wednesday night upon a tip off. It took the Police Action Force Unit about two hours of fierce struggle with him before he was overpowered. Jerry, upon interrogation by the police, mentioned his accomplices as Attaa Ayi, Hope, Cash, Ziggy and Raga.

He said the ordeal was planned by Attaa Ayi and Hope while the former ordered that Mufu should be gunned down. He said Mufu was shot at seven times with pump action guns and a pistol. Jerry said Mufu was killed because they suspected him of leaking information on their activities to the police.

He also confirmed that he was engaged in the recent robbery at Dzorwulu in which ?31 million and 5,000 pounds was taken away from the victim. The Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Mr Kofi Boakye, who is also an Assistant Commissioner of Police, promised that ?2million will be given to anybody who will volunteer information which will lead to the arrest of any of the suspected criminals. He assured the public that the police will continue the fight against armed robbery.

Unidentified gunmen, numbering about five, shot and killed an ex-convict whose name was given as Mufu at Flamingo in Dansoman on Tuesday. A police source said it was believed to be a gangster killing. The source said in the process of firing at the ex-convict, a passer-by, Daniel Amenu, was hit by a stray bullet. It said Amenu is currently on admission at the Police Hospital in Accra and his is said to be responding to treatment.
