The police and military in the Upper East Region and the North East Region have, on Tuesday, August 14, 2024, activated an operation dubbed "Operation Calm Life" at the Upper East Regional Police Headquarters in Bolgatanga.

The exercise is a long-standing police-military nationwide operation aimed at building good relations with citizens to combat crime in the various regions.

In a short opening ceremony to launch the Upper East Regional Operations, about two hundred and ten senior police and military officers and other ranks drawn from both regions chanted peace slogans amidst singing peace songs in unison, signifying their readiness to work together for the peace of the regions.

In his opening address, the Upper East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr. Raymond Adofem Weijong, charged personnel to be committed to providing peace and security, thus protecting lives and properties in their various Areas of Operation (AOR's) through joint patrols.

For his part, Lt. Colonel I. K. Boako, Commanding Officer, 11th Mechanized Batallion, entreated personnel to avoid unhealthy competition and rivalry in the ranks and rather learn from the unity of their commanders and collaborate to ensure the needed peace.

The Regional National Investigations Bureau Commander, Mr. Emmanuel Owusu, urged personnel to conduct themselves professionally during the joint operation to avoid attracting any negative comments from the public.

He assured his outfit that it would support the operations with actionable intelligence to fight crime, including potential terrorism attacks.

The Upper East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr. Raymond Adofem, mounted one of the horses for the patrols, adding to the motorbikes, military armored vehicles, and police combat vehicles to patrol the principal streets of Bolgatanga as a form of registering the readiness of the police and military to work to protect the regions.

A similar exercise is expected to be replicated in the North East Region soon.
