Security Analyst Adam Bonaa says the series of recent criminal targeted Police and Military swoops are inadequate in addressing securiry concerns in the country.
Yesterday(Thursday) the security agencies conducted operations in the Central and Western Regions where nearly 400 suspected criminals were arrested.
But Mr Bonaa who’s also the host of ‘Alert’ on Starr FM says a more holistic approach must be adopted in fighting crime.
“Swoop is one of the very old method of fighting crime, it is an outdated method used in fighting crime and so the other methods are okay in terms of using intellegence operations in fighting crime. The tone of the release from the Police talks about a declared war on criminals. For me, using the war mentality in fighting crime wouldn’t work because crime keeps evolving and therefore I will want to see more dynamism when it comes to fighting crime even though because of probably inadequate resources available to the various security agencies.”
He added: “For instance, if you take the Kasoa Nyanyano and Budumburam area the UN accepted police-civilian ratio is supposed to be 1 Police officer to 500 citizens. If you put Ghana as one slot it’s 1 Police officer to about 800 or 900 citizens.”
