Police Personnel "Starving" In Yendi

According to a local Radio station, Peace FM, police personnel sent to beef up security ahead of the aborted Ya-Na Yakubu Andani's burial were given an allowance of ?70,000 for their one week stay in Yendi.

Information pieced together from credible sources (policemen) indicates that the over 300 Police Officers have run-out of cash and are in dire need of assistance with starvation staring at them in the face, the security personnel who have spent almost a week in Yendi, the Dagbon Traditional Capital, have resorted to begging for alms, moving from house to house in search of food to eat and water to drink.

However, in an interview with Peace FM News, the Director of Public Relations of the Police Headquarters, Chief Superintendent David Ampah Bennin stated that the plight of the security personnel in Yendi has not been brought to their attention, for their allowance to be reviewed. Whilst failing to disclose the amount of money given out to the officers helping out in Yendi, Chief Superintendent Bennin stressed that the Officers have been provided with sufficient money for their up-keep. He added that the Police Administration is following Government's financial regulations in allocating the allowance.

The Police Public Relations Director also pointed out that it is against Police regulations for officers to solicit for money for their up-keep in such situations.
