Accra, July 28, GNA - The Police Administration said on Friday that the petition of a police sergeant, who had granted media interviews in which he made a series of allegations against some senior police officers, had already been sent to the Minister of the Interior. The Minister had initiated steps to investigate the issues raised, according to a statement signed by Superintendent David Eklu, Director of Public Affairs.

The Police Administration on Thursday asked for the institution of disciplinary action against Sergeant Peter Kweky Annobil of the La Police Station in Accra for granting the interviews without permission. Members of the public had expressed fears that the Sergeant's petition might not be given the necessary attention because of the intended disciplinary action.

"The concern of the Police Administration is mainly on procedural matters regarding granting of interviews to the media as stipulated in the General Orders on Communication in the Ghana Police Service," the statement said.

"The Sergeant granted interviews to the media without recourse to the said police regulations."

The Police Administration assured the public that it would in no way interfere with any investigations the Minister of the Interior was conducting into Sergeant Annobil's petition.
