Ghana Telecom Company is claiming ?47 million for telephone bills from the Ghana Police Service whose phone lines the company has been compelled to cut off except that of the commander\'s office.
Mr. Francis Ackon, narrating the story to the Chronicle, pointed out that the rest of the security agencies in Upper Denkyira do promptly settle their bills, but the police rather proved unperturbed and did nothing about it for over a long period now.
The other security agencies include the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and Ghana Immigration Service, who were said to be prompt phone bill settlers. Mr. Ackon, however, wondered if the police had used the lines commercially to have attracted this reddish situation. Ghana Telecom was, however, lenient by restoring some lines back and also with the view to assisting to curb the rising crime wave in the country.
The commercial manager said there were plans in the pipeline to be adopted for the retrieval of the amount. Meanwhile, when the Chronicle contacted the police superior at the District headquarters, ASP Afriyie, the commander, confirmed the claim, but however, said the amount involved was ?16 million.
The ASP mentioned that due to the indebtedness, Ghana Telecom played laxity before repairing their lines when they became faulty. \"We shall do well to settle the bill,\" he assured.
