Over Burglary And Vandalisation

The Weekend Crusading Guide has picked up signals that Ex-President Jerry Rawlings is likely to be quizzed over his comments on the stealing of cash and vandalisation of a land cruiser with registration number GE 6773 W belonging to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ayawaso East Member of Parliament, Dr Mustapha Ahmed, at the recent congress in Koforidua.

A close confidant of ex-President Rawlings told this paper that comments passed by the ex-President after the vandalisation of the vehicle at Koforidua suggested that he had fore-knowledge of the theft or had been briefed by those who carried it out adding that his comments did not show remorse to the MP. ?He sounded happy that the MP?s car had been vandalized,? said the Rawlings? man who pleaded anonymity.

Few minutes after the car was vandalized ex-Presdient Rawlings called Dr Ahmed and allegedly told him he was lucky that his car was only broken into and that the car could have been burnt. Rawlings told Dr Ahmed that he had been told he (Ahmed) had lost ?30 million and hundreds of dollars from the vandalisation of his car.

Dr Ahmed then corrected the ex-President and said he had lost only ?2.5 million and $120 dollars. The police are still investigating the matter. Dr Ahmed also lost his ATM cards and other petty personal belongings. One of the thorny questions that has engaged the minds of the police officers investigating the matter according to sources was how the ex-President got to know of the attack and why he thought that Dr Mustapha Ahmed was lucky that his car was not burnt.

The Weekend Crusading Guide tried to reach Victor Smith for comments on the issue but he failed to pick up his phone. When Dr Mustapha Ahmed was contacted on his cell phone he told newsmen he was not ready to comment on the issue. Pressed further, he said what happened was between him and the founder, adding that he was not ready to say anything. ?I would talk at the appropriate time when I am supposed to talk please,? he reiterated. Meanwhile, The Weekend Crusading Guide?s police source has hinted that those who broke into the MP?s car were the pro-Rawlings supporters led by one Azoka believed to have come from Tamale. The same group of hooligans intimated and whipped pro-Obed supporters at the congress. Some of the boys who have been arrested have already started ?singing? to the police on who sent them and why they were sent.
