Tamale, Aug 2, GNA - The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested 39 persons for possessing quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The Deputy Northern Regional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Lord Obeng-Mensah, told newsmen that the police arrested the suspects in a dawn swoop at their hide-outs at Aboabo market, Gumani forest, Savelugu market and the Tishigu toilet area all in Tamale, on Saturday. Chief Superintendent Obeng-Mensah said the police also found in their possession GH¢85, motor bikes, bicycles and scissors meant for their operations.

Chief Superintendent Obeng-Mensah said the police also found in their possession GH¢85, motor bikes, bicycles and scissors meant for their operations. He said the routine operation carried out by 200 police men drawn from the region was necessitated following reports of constant harassment of people and property in the metropolis. The suspects, he said, would be screened and those found culpable would be process for court and that the operation would continue until all miscreants are flushed out of the metropolis. 2 Aug 09
