Police arrest four officials of Juabeso Assembly over fraud

Takoradi, Sept. 21, GNA - The Western Regional Police Command, has arrested and placed in custody four top officials of the Sefwi Juabeso District Assembly for allegedly defrauding the assembly. The officials whose names have been withheld are the District Co-ordinating Director, District Finance Officer, District Project Officer and the District Accountant.

They are accused of conniving with one Nana Kwesi Okyere, to fake the signature of the District Chief Executive; Mr Solomon Fuachie, and presented a number of cheques to the Bank of Ghana (BOG) to withdraw unspecified amounts of money.

However, luck run out of Nana Okyere who was arrested when he presented a cheque with a face value of GH¢ 37,800 for a non-existent contract he claimed to have executed on behalf of the assembly, at the Takoradi branch of the BOG.

The Manager hinted the District Chief Executive leading to the arrest.

Their arrest was announced by the Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner Of Police Alhaji Hamidu Mahama at a press conference organised by the Regional Co-ordinating Council on Monday. Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Regional Minister expressed shock at the turn of events at the assembly and called on the police to investigate the matter thoroughly and arrest all culprits connected with the case to face prosecution. He cautioned other chief executives of the assemblies to be alert and to avert future occurrence. 21 Sept. 10
