Police arrest seven suspected car syndicate

The Accra Regional Police Command on Tuesday arrested seven suspected car syndicate who were operating within Caprice and Pokuase in the Greater Accra Region and Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Deputy Accra Regional Police Commander addressing a press conference in Accra said the Police had a tip-off on September 9, 2012 that armed robbers were operating within Caprice, Pokuase and Nsawam.

DCOP Yohuno said a team of Policemen from the Regional Police Headquarters arrested Kojo Baffour Manu who received one of the stolen Toyota Corolla Cab at Nsakyir near Adoagyiri and parked the car at a fitting shop looking for a buyer.

He mentioned the other suspects as Theophilus Opare aged 25 years, Michael Mensah, 22 , Emmanbuel Kluttey Roberson, 24, James Sarfo , 32, James Worwu, 23 and Henry Doudoo, a 29-year-old teacher of an International School at Pokuase.

DCOP Yohuno said the suspects were arrested in a Police operation mounted at Carprice, Pokuase and Nsawam and during interrogation they confessed to having snatched six cars so far, but it is only a Mazda and Toyota Corolla that have been retrieved.

He said their modus of operation was that they go to taxi ranks within Accra and ask for “dropping” and when they reach a location favorable for them, they attack the drivers with cutlasses and guns and snatched the cars from them.

DCOP Yohuno said the Police have identified Pokuase as their place of abode.

He advised landlords and landladies and tenants to alert the Police whenever they see a group of young men residing in an area and bring in different cars home and advised car owners to fix car tracking device in their cars.

DCOP said it is important for the public to be security conscious at all times and report any suspicious characters to the Police.
