Accra, Nov. 8, GNA - A team of police personnel from the La District Police headquarters on Wednesday arrested seven suspected drug dealers, including a woman.

They were suspected to have in their possession 24 wrappers suspected to be cannabis, whitish substance suspected to be cocaine, identity cards and complimentary cards.

The suspects are Odartey Lamptey, 37, Kwaku Mensah, 42, Tawiah Asharley, 25, Adjetey Oduma, 43, Allan Mensah, 47, Nicholas Aryee, 32 and Vida Lamptey, 27.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), La District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nyamekye Adane Ameyaw said the suspects were arrested at their hideout following police intelligence reports of their activities.

DSP Ameyaw said the operation was a follow-up to two previous ones carried out by his outfit to rid the area of suspected criminals. He said police investigations were still going on and the suspects would be put before the court in due course.

DSP Nyamekye expressed regret that the residents of La were not cooperating with the police to help arrest suspects and urged the public to report drug suspects to the security agencies. He also advised drivers to desist from drinking and dealing in illegal drugs to make this year's Christmas accident free.
