A 27-year-old software engineer, Appia Kyere Dankwa, has been arrested by the Sekondi police for claiming to be a medical doctor and administering drugs to people in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
He was charged for willfully and falsely using a title and practicing medicine, which is against Health Professionals Regulatory Act, Act 857/13.
Western Regional Public Relations Officer of Ghana Police Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, made this known to Ghana News Agency on Sunday.
The accused pleaded not guilty when he appeared before a Takoradi Circuit Court presided over by Mr. Charles Bamfo Nimako on May 16.
She said the court granted him Ghc100,000 with one surety to be justified and would re-appear in court on Wednesday May 21.
ASP Adiku said Appia collected huge sums of money from people and prescribed drugs for them.
Sometimes, the accused person collected money from his victims and bought medicine for them after diagnosis.
However, some people suffered health complications after taking the medicine and, therefore, reported the matter to the police.
Police investigations revealed that he was not a professional medical doctor as he claimed and was arrested and arraigned.
