Police told the official Ghana News Agency that a man had been arrested in connection with the shooting and a pistol confiscated.
Medical sources said 17 other people had been treated for gunshot wounds. They said that the dead were a youth aged 14 and a man of 25.
The Alliance for Change group, which rallied an estimated 50,000 marchers for its protest, clashed with members of a counter demonstration organised by the Committees for the Defence of the Revolution near the central Market Square. Police fired warning shots to restore order.
Ghana, after over a decade of World Bank and International Monetary Fund belt-tightening, has been hit by protests this year from government workers saying they need up to 70 percent more pay to make ends meet. The government has offered 25 percent.
