The thirty-one (31) year-old Chinese woman Aisha Huang currently on remand with three suspects for engaging in illegal mining in the country was banned from entering the premises of the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

A former member of the Ashanti Regional Security Committee (REGSEC) who disclosed this to mynewsgh.com on grounds of strict anonymity said her visits to the Regional Police Command constituted a nuisance and in some way, affected the police in the discharge of their duties.

The senior police officer revealed that the frequency at which she was always visiting the premises of the command to plead for the release of mining equipments to persons engaged in illegal mining was nauseating for which reason that decision was taken by management.

“She was banned from this premises because her complaints to the Command became nuisance to the Regional Commander and other officers here” the source stated.

“Anytime she is arrested for her illegal business pressure will come from all quarters for her release. So we also took a stance not to entertain her in this office”

This revelation comes at the back of calls by a civil society organization, Save Ghana Foundation (SGF) for the Inspector General of Police (IGP) David Asante-Apeatu to investigate operations of officers in the region for their alleged roles in fueling illegal mining.

SGF Chief Executive Officer, Kofi Agyei wants the former Ashanti Regional Police Commander, COP Kofi Boakye and former Ashanti Regional Minister; Hon. Alexander John Ackon investigated over allegations of providing security to illegal miners in the region during their tenure.

However, investigations by reporters have it that Aisha Huang said to have strong connection at the seat of government at the time was arrested by police in Kumasi but was released under the instructions of the then Regional Minister claiming those who effected the arrest had no warrants .

The former Regional Security Committee Chairman (RESEC) has since confirmed he ordered the release of Aisha Huang and her seized excavators arrested by the police in the region.
