Abuakwa (Ash), Jan 23, GNA - Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Maxwell Osei, Abuakwa District Police Commander, has stated that the police cannot perform well in crime prevention without the full support and confidence of the public.
He has therefore, called for a maximum co-operation between the police and the public to enable the police to perform better in crime prevention in the district.
DSP Osei was speaking at the WASSA organized by the district police command at Abuakwa in the Atwima-Nwabiagya district on Saturday. The WASSA, which is an annual get-together offer both junior and senior personnel of the service the opportunity to socialise and fraternise after a hard year's work.
It also allows the senior officers to gather useful information from the junior officers to enable them improve their performance. DSP Osei attributed high rate of crime in the district to the peri-urban nature of Abuakwa, which had brought in people from all walks of life to stay in the area.
He, however, said the police, in spite of the logistical and human resource challenges had been able to rise up against all odds to combat crime in the district.
He commended the Regional Police Commander, ACP Frank Adu-Poku for his exceptional leadership, which had inspired the police in the region to commit themselves to crime prevention and ensure peace and security of the citizenry.
DSP Osei appealed to the Atwima-Nwabiagya District Assembly to provide the personnel in the district with modern police station and barracks to accommodate and increase police personnel in the district. Assistant Commissioner of Police Seth Charles Oteng, Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, urged the personnel to continue to work assiduously to protect life and property in the area. He also advised them to be loyal to the police service at all times and urged them to be courteous to all people who approach them for assistance.
Mr Stephen Boateng, presiding member of the Atwima-Nwabiagya district assembly commended the police personnel in the district for their hard work and dedication, which had helped to reduce crime wave in the district.
