Police can’t stop us – Aggrieved DKM customers

Aggrieved Customers of rogue micro-finance companies who lost their life-long savings in a bunco scheme in Brong Ahafo Region say they will defy the orders of the Police to block their demonstration against President Mahama and go ahead with the planned action set for this weekend.

The Police have disclosed that they lack adequate officers and logistics to provide security for the protesters as it coincides with the governing NDC’s manifesto launch in the same region.

But the Coordinator of the aggrieved demonstrators, Maxwell Mahama insists they’re determined to embark on the demonstration and hence the Police attempt to stay the protest billed for the weekend won’t work.

“Whoever attempts to give approval will be a breach of the public order Act and even in the 1992 constitution. We don’t need approval when somebody wants to embark on a demonstration. The law is clear; we should notify the Police and we have done that according to law. But the Police cannot say they’ll give us approval; that will be out of law. Whether they’ll give us protection or not, we can also give ourselves protection. it is also in the Act or law.” he told the media ahead of Saturday’s protest.

The aggrieved customers planned the regional demonstration Saturday to protest what they say is government’s lack of commitment to retrieve their monies from the micro-finance companies.

The poor customers are yet to receive their monies, lost to the bunco scheme even after the Presidential order for customers to be paid their locked up cash, hence the demonstration.

However, a notice of injunction said the police will provide security to the demonstrators at another date.
