Police cautions against “dirty politics”

Kumasi, Dec. 18, GNA - The Ghana Police Service has warned that the police and other security agencies would not countenance any behavior that would ruin the peace of the country during the 2012 General Election.

The Director General of Human Resource Department of the service, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Alhaji Hamidu Mahama, said the security agencies would not hesitate to deal with anyone who would breach the peace of the nation before, during and after the elections.

He advised the citizenry to stick to issues and desist from personality attacks, which could lead to chaos.

Alhaji Mahama gave the advice at the passing-out parade of 324 police recruits at the Kumasi Police Training School, after a-six-month training in 18 subjects including; Physical training, Musketry, Map reading, criminal law and French.

“Ghana has a track record of conducting successful elections and we must strive to maintain this record if not improve upon it,” he said, adding that as the world would be looking to Ghana for another successful elections, the onus lies on the security agencies not to fail the country.

He appealed to the public to co-operate with the police by obeying the laws of the country as well as supplying the service with relevant information, leading to the arrest of criminals.

He call on the recruits to ensure professionalism as expected of them by the taxpayer.

DCOP Mahama noted that through peace and stability the taxpayer would be able to go about his or her duties without fear, thereby being able to contribute to the upkeep of the police and other public servants.

He cautioned the new police personnel against indiscipline and insubordination, warning that such acts would not be tolerated by the Police Administration.

DCOP Mahama urged them to adopt a positive attitude towards work and remain resilient, tolerant, honest and display good judgment.
