Police commended for combating crime in Akuapem area

Akropong Akuapem, March 14, GNA - The chief of Mamfe-Akuapem, Nana Ansah Sasraku II, has commended the police in the area for effectively combating armed robbery and other crime related issues. He said this had created a congenial atmosphere in the area for people to go about their normal socio-economic activities in peace. Nana Ansah Sasraku therefore urged the divisional command to do all it could to maintain the momentum and flush out all the officers whose activities were bringing the name of the service into disrepute. Nana Ansah Sasraku, also the Kyidomhene of Akuapem Traditional Area, gavem the commendation at the 2011 annual West Africa Security Services Association (WASSA) dinner held by the Akropong Division of the Police Service at Akropong Nana Ansah Sasraku said Akuapem had remained calm in-spite of a number of chieftaincy and land dispute in the area and attributed it to the effectiveness of the police. He solicited for the support and co-operation of the police in combating crimes to make life enjoyable in the area.

The Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Ernest Owusu, said the event gave the personnel opportunity to assemble and socialize, interact an= d make merry after a long year of tedious work with the primary responsibilit= y of protecting life and property and maintaining law and order. Chief Superintendent Owusu said the year 2010 was without doubt very eventful in the area of combating violent crime and law enforcement. He said 2010 welcomed them with land litigations, horrific spate of roa= d traffic accidents which claimed some lives, and just when they were coming to terms with that disturbing phenomenon, the division was hit by chieftaincy problems at Akropong, Larteh, Tinkong and Asaman Ketewa. He commended the chiefs and other stakeholders in the area for giving them the necessary support for them to achieve their target although they did not achieved 100 per cent operational success Chief Superintendent Owusu cautioned his men that the decline in the crime rate in the area should not deceive them into believing that the battle had been won.

"I will therefore entreat all fellow officers and men not to be complacent because there are more challenges ahead," he said. He urged his men to work extra hard and intensify their activities in the area of community policing and neighbourhood watch committees.
