Accra, Oct 19, GNA - The Ghana Police CID has explained news media reports about the abducted boy found in a boarding school at Cape Coast.
In a statement, the CID said: "the attention of the Police CID has been drawn to a front page publication in the Ghanaian Times on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 with the headline, "15 year search yields result at last: ABDUCTED BOY FOUND..... Ghana Interpol Scotland Yard collaboration."
The Director of C.I.D., Mr David Asante-Apeatu wishes to explain that the story as published was not only distorted but also embarrassing to the Police Service.
The Police would like to make it clear that it has not yet been confirmed that the boy whose photograph was published with the story is, in fact, Ames Glover.
What has so far been established is that the boy in the picture has been traced in Cape Coast by a team of UK Police and their Ghanaian counterparts from the CID Interpol Unit and that a mouth swap (saliva) has been taken from him to the United Kingdom for a DNA test to find out whether he is Ames Glover or not.
Also, there has not been any news conference in Accra by Detective Chief Inspector David Ainscough, leader of the Scotland Yard team to announce the breakthrough as reported in The Ghanaian Times. The Police wish to emphasise again that Ames Glover has not been found in any part of the country and that investigations are still on-going.
The CID Director would like to appeal to members of the public that anyone with information leading to the tracing of Ames Glover should contact the CID Headquarters Interpol Unit or the nearest Police Station.
