Police grab 31 in NVTI Examination Leakage

Accra, June 17, GNA - Thirty-one people including five National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) staff have been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in connection with the leakage of examination papers in the ongoing NVTI Standard, Grading and Certification Examinations.

Police sources told the Ghana News Agency that a student of the Institute of Professional Studies and 25 NVTI Final Year Students were arrested at various examination centres in the Central and Greater Accra Regions.

The Police said that there had been widespread leakage since the examinations began on June 2 and that subjects affected were: General Electric One and Two; Draughtsmanship One and Two; Masonry One and Two; Radio and Television Servicing; Dressmaking; Cookery and Construction Electrical.

Meanwhile latest reports confirmed the leakage of the Clerical Paper also.

The Police Public Relations Unit gave the break down of the arrests as: Twelve students from Emit Electronic Institute, Kaneshie, Accra; six from the ARS Technical Institute, Pig Farm, Accra and seven from the NVTI Centre at Agona Swedru, in the Central Region.

The Source said investigations had revealed that Stephen Ahlijah, a Cleaner/Messenger at the office of the Director of NVTI and Patrick Yeboah, a staff of NVTI, Accra Centre, were the sources of the leakage. It further stated that Anthony Cobbina, a First Year Student of IPS, was the distributor of the question papers.

Police said it received information that examination malpractices were going on at some centres in Accra and Agona Swedru, where students were writing their final examinations.

Police acted swiftly and moved to the centres where some candidates were found with prepared answers and photocopies of the leaked examinations questions on some of the students. 17 June 04
