Accra, Jan 11, GNA - Following the recent computer thefts in 34 Government Agencies, Departments and Ministries, the Police have arrested one Michael Kwesi Osei, 29, for stealing computers from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and President's Special Initiative. An accomplice of Osei, Christopher Homawoo, who operates an Internet caf=E9, Homonus Caf=E9, at Teshie in Accra, was also apprehended. Chief Superintendent Akua Afriyie, Divisional Crime Officer at the Ministries Police Station, told the Ghana News Agency that Osei was arrested on December 28, which was a holiday, and he led the Police to the house of Christopher at New Town as the one who was buying the computers.

She said 22 computers have been retrieved and urged all MDAs affected to come and identify and collect them.

Ms Afriyie said Osei operated by observing the movements of security men at the various ministries and then goes round the offices to find louver blades that had not been well shut.

She said he would then remove the louvers, jump into the offices and take out the computers and would use that same route to get out and then replace the louver blades.

Ms Afriyie said on the said day the Chief Security of the MOTI detected movements in one of the offices and called other security men around, when Osei heard of their movements towards him he scaled the building and took to his heels but was, however, arrested after a hot chase.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Jonathan Yakubu, Divisional Commander of the Area, said Osei and his accomplice would soon be arraigned.
