Police intercepts stolen car

Aflao, Dec. 17, GNA - An Opel Astra taxicab, with registration number GE 4075 W, believed by Police to have been stolen from Accra and driven to Denu in the Volta Region was last Wednesday intercepted by Police at Aflao. Mawuli Adzake, 22, from Aflao, an ex-convict, who brought the vehicle bearing the address of one Kofi Poku, Box 87, Airport, Accra has been placed in custody for interrogation.

Police told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Adzake, known at the vicinity of the Ghana-Togo Frontier as adept in pick pocketing and mobile phone snatching was giving a rousing welcome by inmates of the Aflao Police cells when he was locked up. Chief Inspector Frimpong Manso said the Police acted on the call of an unidentified person that a young person with questionable character had arrived in Denu with a car, suspected stolen. He said a Police team dispatched to verify the report did not meet the suspect and the car but later a welder engaged by the suspect to mend the vehicles damaged exhaust unknowingly drove it to Aflao where it was impounded.

Chief Inspector Manso said the mechanic led the Police to a cottage behind the St Paul's Secondary School, Denu, where Adzake was found and picked up. He said the suspect told the Police that the car was given to him in Accra, where he lived and worked as a driver's mate, as guarantee for five million cedis he gave as loan to the owner. Chief Inspector Manso said Adzake claimed the agreement was that, the car would be given back to the owner when the money was paid back. He said Adzake could not give the name or the owner or place where the deal was struck and also could not provide papers on the car.
