The Ghana Police Service says it has commenced an investigation into an incident involving the convoy of the running mate of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
According to a police statement dated Saturday, November 30, 2024, a dispatch rider moving in the opposite direction of the running mate’s convoy, which was travelling between Akuse and Kpong on the Akosombo Highway, threw an object at the windscreen of one of the vehicles in the convoy, causing damage to the windshield.
“The Ghana Police Service has commenced an investigation into an incident involving the convoy of Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Friday, November 29, 2024.
“Preliminary police reports indicate that the incident occurred between Akuse and Kpong, along the Akosombo-Accra Highway in the Eastern Region, when a dispatch rider from the opposite direction allegedly threw an object at the windscreen of a vehicle in the running mate’s convoy, causing damage to the windscreen,” the police statement said.
Political parties and candidates are on the final lap of their campaign activities for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Ghanaians will go to the polls on December 7 to elect a new president and parliamentary candidates.
According to the police, they are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation as part of their commitment to ensure peace and safety before, during, and after the elections.
