Nkawkaw, (E/R) April, 15, GNA- The Nkawkaw police has shot dead a suspected armed robber at their hide out in the bush at the outskirt of the town during an operation.

The suspected armed robber was identified as Salifu Seidu, an auto mechanic at "Soldier Line" a suburb of Nkawkaw, while eight other suspected armed robbers managed to escape.

Nkawkaw Police told the press on April 7, that they had a tip-off that some suspected armed robbers who were terrorising the residents of the town for the past week were hiding in a bush behind Novotel, a wood-processing factory at Nkawkaw.

It said eight armed policemen led by Deputy District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Klomegah, were dispatch to the area.

The source said the suspected armed robbers started firing at the police at close range, and this resulted in the police also returning fire and the victim, who was holding a locally-manufactured pistol was hit on the hand and the ribs and he collapsed.

Police said the victim was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital but died later.

When the area was searched, one loaded locally- manufactured pistol, two-live cartridges and a mask were found.

When the Nkawkaw Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, Emmanuel Amamoo, was contacted, he confirmed the story and appealed to the people to inform the police of the hideout of the robbers for them to be apprehended.
