Police nab five persons for allegedly stealing at the late President Mills' funeral

A makeshift police station at the independence square on Friday arrested five persons for allegedly stealing mobile phones during the burial ceremony for the late President Mills, while another was arrested for imposing as a policeman.

Two of the suspects were identified as, Frank Kwadwo Adusei, 13, a.k.a Akaila, who allegedly picked mobile phones from mourners, while Frank Asare Kobina posed as a police officer.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at the station, Police Chief Inspector Noah Bonney said the placement of both plain clothed and uniformed policemen at the grounds enabled them to carry out the arrests swiftly.

He said they had been sent to the Ministries Police station and would soon be prosecuted after preliminary investigations.

Chief Inspector Bonney gave the assurance that the Police would step up their underground investigations to arrest all miscreants who would try to carry out nefarious activities during the funeral of the late President.

Meanwhile, some mourners who could not get access to the inner parameters of the independence square expressed their disappointment at the standing arrangements that had relegated them from witnessing the proceedings at the late President's funeral ceremony.**
