A 22-year old suspected armed robber has been arrested by the Sefwi-Bekwai Police.

The suspect, Paul Baidoo, was apprehended on May 20, at about 2130 hours.

The outgoing Western Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr. Isaac Alex Quainoo, told the media in Sekondi, on Tuesday that the Police were on duty at a security check point at Sefwi-Bekwai when they spotted the suspect together with his accomplice, Paa Nii.

They were riding on a motorbike from Agona-Amenfi towards Sefwi-Bekwai.

He said the Police, acting upon a tip-off, they signaled them to stop, but Paa Nii jumped from the motorbike and escaped.

DCOP Quainoo said the Police searched the suspect and retrieved an AK 47 assault rifle and a locally-manufactured short gun from him.

Upon interrogation, the Commander said the suspect could not give any tangible explanation on how he acquired the weapon, therefore, he was placed in Police custody to assist in investigations.

The Police Commander said that the Command had intensified its snap checks in the northern part of the Region to minimise the incessant cases of armed robbery.

It has also set up check points in some vantage areas.

He, therefore, asked all well-meaning Ghanaians to provide the Police with the relevant information that could help them in arresting criminals who were terrorising people in the Region.

Meanwhile, the Police have mounted a search for Paa Nii.
