The Tarkwa Divisional Police Commander, Assistance Commissioner of Police Paul Ayitey, has called for the removal of unauthorized speed ramps constructed at Ahwitieso on the Tarkwa/Takoradi road.

He said this on Friday when the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) of Tarkwa Nsueam met the chiefs and people of Ahwitieso, Essamang and Kyekyewere.

ACP Ayitey said though the Ahwitieso communities had every right to express their displeasure on the carelessness of some drivers which results in accidents they needed to comply with the law.

He said to ensure sanity and decency on the road a police monitoring team would be set up at Ahwitieso and the neighbouring communities to ensure drivers who violate the Road Traffic Act are dealt with.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Tarkwa Nsueam, Mrs. Christina Kobinah, appealed to the people to co-operate with the police by reporting any driver who flouts the law.

The Ghana Highway Authority Engineer of Tarkwa, Mr. Emmanuel Haligah, said before any community could construct a speed ramp or zebra crossing, it should obtain permit from the Authority as well as specification.

The chief of Kyekyewere Nana Saa Kofi III, the chief of Ahwitieso, Nana Kessie Panin and the Essamang chief, Nana Koranchi, said within four years the road has claimed 36 lives and injured 17 people.

Ahwitieso recorded 16, Kyekyewere 12 and Essamang had 8.
