The police administration has launched an investigation into the death of a-53-year-old suspect who died after spending some days in custody at the Madina police station.
Mr. Joe Tuffour was arrested last Friday when a car deal he was handling reportedly went bad.
He was reported to have been rushed to the hospital where he died on Wednesday.
His family claims he died in the cell, but police are disputing that.
There are indications the conditions of the detention center contributed to the death of Joe Tuffour.
But the PRO for the Accra regional police command, DSP Freeman Tetteh told XYZ News, the police hierarchy will sanction any personnel found to have played a role in death of the suspect.
Meanwhile Amnesty International Ghana is saddened by the development and calls for serious action at tackling the deteriorating conditions of detention centers across the country.
