Police quiz four over bullet wounds on their children

Wa, July 24, GNA - The Wa Police are holding four parents from Jang, near Tuna in the Bole District of the Northern Region over gunshot wounds on their three children.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Wa on Wednesday, Inspector Daniel Dorkpoh, Regional Police Public Relations Officer, said on July 19 the parents brought the children to the Wa Regional Hospital for treatment. However, a member of the Cuban Medical Brigade at the hospital, Dr Elvis Pardo Olivies, who attended to the children, alerted the Police. Inspector Dorkpoh said the parents told the Police that a stray bullet fired by an unidentified hunter in the bush hit the children.

He gave the names of the parents as Madam Banaya Mwagu, 45, Forgu Mwagu, 49, Zoryi Mwagu, 40 and Daniel Kipo, 21.

Inspector Dorkpoh said the eldest of the three children Bolli Issahaku, aged nine whose condition was most critical, died the following day while on admission but the other two children were treated and discharged. They are Fugu Mwagu, aged eight and Legu Mwagu, six. Inspector Dorkpo said the case docket was being processed for transfer to the Tuna Police station for further investigation as the Wa Police lacked jurisdiction over the case.

The Regional Police Command commended Dr Olivies for alerting the Police.
