Wassa-Akropong (W/R), Sept 11, GNA - A large quantity of high tension electricity cables and believed to have been stolen were discovered by the police on Friday following a tip-off. Chief Inspector Kyei Asante-Krobiah, in charge of the Wassa-Akropong Police, told Madam Doris Oduro, the District Chief Executive for Wassa-Amenfi East, that no arrests have been made.

He said the cables could be part of the consignment for the electrification programme at Dompoase and other areas in the district under the Rural Electrification Project.

He appealed to the people to volunteer information that would lead to the arrest of those perpetrating the crime that could delay the programme to extend electricity to many rural communities in the district.

Madam Oduro commended the people and the police for the collaboration that led to the recovery of the cables.

She affirmed the district assembly's commitment to support the police and expressed concern about diversion and stealing of materials meant for development projects and appealed to the people and security personnel to be vigilant. 11 Sept 06
