The Police on Monday rescued one Thomas Ayitey, 20, a porter at the Koforidua/Kumasi lorry station from a mob who had threatened to kill him at Huhunya near Nkurakan.

Ayitey was arrested by the people in a nearby bush at Klo-Agogo junction and was suspected to be one of two suspects who stole sheep in the area and managed to escape arrest.

The Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ebenezer Tetteh told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the suspect, during Police interrogation denied being involved in an earlier theft at Klo-Agogo, where two motor riders were killed at Huhunya.

He said the suspect confessed that he was in the bush with two other people to convey lumber.

DSP Tetteh said, the suspect has been detained by the police to protect him against mob attack and to assist in investigations.

Earlier in the week, people in the area had burnt a suspect to death for stealing sheep in the area while his two accomplices escaped.
