Police restore calm, law and order to Nkwanta and its environs

The Ghana Police Service has announced that with the support of the military, it has restored calm and order to Nkwanta and it environs in the Oti Region, following a renewed communal disturbance.

The incident, which led to the deaths of five persons, and injured five others, also saw eight buildings and shop destroyed.

A statement issued by the command on January 17, 2025, further indicated that reinforcement teams have been deployed to assist the regional command to maintain security.

According to the statement, the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, had a discussion with the three local chiefs, urging them to collaborate with security agencies to sustain peace.

However, the Oti Regional Police Commander is meeting with chiefs, opinion leaders, and residents as part of ongoing peace-building efforts.

Authorities have assured the public that the police and military will continue to work together to ensure the safety and security of Nkwanta and its surrounding communities, as investigations into the disturbances proceed.

The injured persons are currently receiving medical treatment, while the deceased have been sent to the morgue.
