One of the criminals who stole a police rifle last June has been arrested by the Amasaman Divisional Police.

Twenty-nine year old scrab dealer, Anthony Agbozo, was arrested together with the rifle, which has been disfigured. Six out of the 8 rounds of ammunition had been replaced.

Anthony Agbozo was arrested on Monday, November 30 at his hideout in a village near Amasaman.

His arrest followed several months of intensive police intelligence over the missing rifle, which was mysteriously taken away from a policeman on guard duty.

Anthony Agbozo, who claimed to be a father of six boys, admitted in his caution statement that he and other accomplices stole the rifle.

He said he keeps the rifle, which he rents out to people for armed robbery operations.

According to the police, the rifle was assigned to the officer for duty within the municipality.

DSP Elvis Bawa Sadongo said the officer later returned without the weapon and reported that it was missing.

DSP Sandongo said the necessary police procedures followed and all investigative machineries were triggered.

An intensified intelligence later led to the arrest of the suspect on Monday

According to the police laws, an officer, who loses his rifle on duty or otherwise, has ten working days to produce the missing arms and ammunition.

Failure in this results in interdiction or summary dismissal.

The breakthrough by the Amasaman police may therefore be a breather for their colleague who has been experiencing agonizing moments since June this year.
