Police search for murder suspect

Kumasi, Sept. 12, GNA - The Kumasi police have mounted a man-hunt for one Sumaila who allegedly stabbed a 25-year old loading boy to death at a drinking spot in Asawasi, Kumasi last Thursday evening. Sumaila, believed to be in his early twenties was said to have stabbed Sepa Abla Atindana, also known as Charles, twice in the chest and ribs, killing him instantly.

The suspect is said to have stabbed the deceased following his refusal to give him a 5,000 cedi-note the former had wanted to snatch from him.

The deceased's body has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) mortuary for autopsy.

Chief Inspector Mustapha Eluba Donkor, Officer in-charge of the Asawasi Police Station, who confirmed the incident to the GNA in Kumasi on Sunday, said the police had invited the owner of the drinking bar, who is also a brother of the deceased and other witnesses to help in investigations.

He called on the public to help the police with information to arrest the suspect who went into hiding immediately after the incident. Mr. Suleiman Abdullai, another brother of the deceased and an eyewitness of the incident, told the GNA that at about 2030 hours on the day of the incident, the suspect accosted the deceased who had just entered the bar and attempted to snatch his five thousand cedis note from him.

He said when the deceased refused to give him the money, the suspect who was then welding a sharp knife, stabbed him in the chest, and repeated same in the ribs with the deceased bleeding profusely. Mr. Abdullai said realizing the crime he had committed, the suspect took to his heels whiles on-lookers went to the rescue of the deceased.
