As part of measures to curb the spate of armed robbery in the Ashanti region, the Police Command has set up an anti-robbery squad to deal with the situation head on.
This follows a number of armed robbery attacks that have been recorded in the region in 72hrs.
Last Thursday night, armed men allegedly shot dead a policeman at a hotel at Denkyemuoso when he parked his car near the hotel where the robbers were attacking and robbing the occupants.
Also in the latest robbery at Ahenema Kokoben, the robbers, numbering about three, reportedly killed a 31-year-old electrician at his residence at Ahenema Kokoben, near Kumasi.
The situation has left most of the residents terrified since according to them, they don’t feel safe in the area.
However, the Regional Police Command is optimistic the setting up of the anti-robbery squad will deal with any violent crimes and robberies in the area.
“The Regional Command is not resting on its oars…We’ve established an anti-robbery squad. There’s going to be a meeting at the Regional Police headquarters where all Senior officers will be present and we will be sharing ideas on how to deal with this particular people and other violent crimes in the region. And it will be there to assist the region deal with violent crime operation,” Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Mohammed Yussif Tanko, the Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, told Accra-based Citi FM.
