The Volta Regional Police Command has invaded the hideouts of some robbers and criminals in the Ho Municipality, the capital of the Volta Region.
The incident has sent some fear and panic among criminals in the municipality who have been tormenting residents for some weeks now.
The invasion took place in the area behind the Metro Mass Bus (MMB) terminal near the Central Lorry Station, a place noted to be the hideout and den for criminals in the municipality.
It is also known for its slummy nature and an avenue for transacting myriad criminal activities, including the selling of drugs and stolen items, the hideout of stolen items and prostitution, among others.
Narrating the incident to DAILY GUIDE, the Regional Operations Commander, Chief Superintendent Ebenezer Kweku Asare, said the swoop is among a series of special operations to be undertaken in the coming days.
He said on Monday, February 23, 2015 at about 7:30pm, he together with his deputy, ASP Van Kofi, led a SWAT Team to invade the den of the criminals. In the process, 11 suspected criminals were rounded up together with some quantity of Indian hemp.
Currently, the suspects are being screened and those found culpable would be arraigned before a court.
Chief Superintendent Asare stressed that “this is a routine exercise and it is going to be sustained.”
He added, “We will continue to clamp down on all criminal activities in the municipality so that people can go about their business without intimidation and fear.”
The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Peterkin Yentumi Gyinae, also assured that the police would continue to ensure law and order and make Ho safe for all its inhabitants.
He, therefore, called on the public to give prompt information about criminals to make the work of the police easier.
