Police taskforce to revisit old sensitive cases

Accra, July 20, GNA - The Ghana Police has formed a taskforce to revisit old but sensitive cases that have lingered on for several years to expedite action. The taskforce, which is under the Homicide Investigation Unite of the Police, would have crack detectives to re-investigate old murder cases that had taken years to conclude investigations. Dr. Kofi Kesse Manfo, Deputy Inspector General of Police said this at a media briefing on the current crime situation in the country. He said the police was doing all it could to ensure the safety of citizens adding, "the nature of investigations required them to be discreet with certain information therefore we are working hard in apprehending the culprits".

He noted that the Police could not fight crime alone and needed the partnership of the public who were requested to report incidence of crime for the appropriate action to be taken. "We urge the public to be the eyes and the ears of the Police by being vigilant and reporting all suspicious persons and events". Dr Manfo explained that the track record of the Police had been fairly successfully in the past and "we will continue to improve upon our capacity to discharge our constitutional responsibilities effectively".

He said there was the need to build capacities to prevent and apprehend criminals, prosecute offenders and make the commission of crime an unattractive venture and appealed to the public not to panic but remain calm.
