The Motor Traffic Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service is to auction all seized motorbikes that have taken up spaces at various police stations across the country.

The motorbikes were seized from unauthorized motor riders who have since failed to either present themselves for prosecution or submit the relevant documentations to enable the release of their bikes to them.

The MTTD on Tuesday, September 6, carried out an operation in parts of Accra during which a total of 270 motorbikes were seized from their riders who did not have the proper documentation and licence to ride.

Speaking on Onua FM’s Yen Sempa, the MTTD Commander, ACP Patrick Adusei Sarpong, said “most police stations are crowded with several motor bikes because some riders do not come at all when we arrest them but this time, we shall auction these motorbikes in two weeks time”.

He said owners of those motorbikes have two weeks to present themselves at the various police stations or risk having their bikes auctioned after they have secured a court order.

ACP Adusei Sarpong said they want to clear the spaces at the various police station so that they can get spaces for further exercise to arrest those riding without the proper licencing, saying “We need the spaces to park the motors after the exercises so we shall send those we arrested yesterday to court today, tomorrow and Friday”.

The commander noted those who cannot show up in court in person could delegate someone to represent them in court. “We shall continue to enforce the laws until the motor riders adhere to the laws of this land,” he warned.
