Police to 'fish out' people behind Ebony, Kuri mortuary video recording

The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a video involving late dancehall act, Ebony Reigns and her friend, Franky Kuri whose lifeless bodies were captured on camera in a mortuary.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Hitz FM, Chief Superintendent Herbert Gustave Yankson, the Director in charge of the Cyber Crime Unit of the Ghana Police Service said investigations had started into the matter.

He revealed that the video which had been leaked constituted a crime and contravened the constitution of Ghana when it came to circulation of obscene material. The security officer, in explaining the issue cited Section 281 of the Criminal Offenses Act which spoke against the display of explicit material for public viewing.

He added that the matter had been brought to their attention and it necessitated investigations to bring all the culprits involved to book. According to the security personnel, circulating such content constituted a crime.

He went on to warn the general public to desist from sharing the said video since offenders could be punished when caught.

Social media went into a frenzy after a video showed a man ‘fondling’ the lifeless bodies of the award-winning dancehall act Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng and her friend, Franky Kuri.

The video which has been shared on some social media platforms has enraged many Ghanaians who are calling for the arrest of the mortuary worker and his accomplices. It has however been reported that the father of the late singer has threatened to sue the hospital and the people who were involved in the production and circulation of the video.

Ebony died in a gory accident on the Sunyani-Kumasi road while returning to Accra from Sunyani. Her childhood friend and PA, Franky Kuri and one air force official, Francis Atsu Vondee, who posed as a bodyguard also died in the car crash. After her death, some of the female artistes came together and recorded a tribute in her honor.

Many people have mourned, eulogized and celebrated the musician after her passing.
