The Bawku West Police Command, is to form 54 watchdog committees as part of measures to fight crime.
The new District Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Honu Boni, who took over from ASP James Ankan, said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Zebilla, on how he intends to tackle the rising crime rate in the District.
He appealed to the youth to register with their Assembly members to be part of the committees, and assured the public of police confidentiality and professionalism.
He entreated the people to report criminal cases to his outfit for appropriate action, since the police need their help to be able to work efficiently.
ASP Boni asked the public to report criminal cases in secrecy and not brag about it, since that could hinder police investigation and also endanger the whistle blower’s life.
The District in recent times has recorded series of criminal cases including robbery attacks, some of which resulted in fatalities.
