Police warn the public against turning coins into jewellery

Sunyani (B/A) Dec.21, GNA - The Police in Brong Ahafo has warned the public against turning the 500 cedis coins into jewellery. A statement from the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Kwaku Ayensu Opare-Addo, Regional Commander released to Ghana News Agency at Sunyani said the practice contravened the currency Act of Bank of Ghana.

It said perpetrators would be dealt with in accordance with the law when caught, noting that "persons of such character are economic saboteurs."

The Regional Command requested the public to report persons engaged in the practice to the police.

"The police command appeals to people with dubious characters to stop before the police arrest them," It added.

In another development, an induction service has been held at the Police Church at Sunyani for the Regional Commander, who took over from Deputy Commissioner of Police Yaw Adu-Gyimah, Director-General, Technical and General Services, Police headquarters in Accra. The statement said Police Superintendent S. K. Abayie, Police Chaplain, in a sermon emphasized the need for co-existence between the police and the public. "The public are the kinsmen of security services and must be treated fairly," He said.

ACP Opare-Addo commended security agencies within the region for their partnership with the police in crime combating and called for more cooperation among the agencies to maintain peace and security within the region.
